Bill Keeping Seniors & Disabled Residents in Homes Passes Senate Committee

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) is pleased to announce that the Senate Governance and Finance Committee today passed a bill that will help keep California senior, blind and disabled residents in their homes if and when they encounter financial difficulties.
SB 477 would add mobile homes to a recently reestablished property tax postponement program, ensuring that low-income senior citizen, blind and disabled mobile home owners are eligible to apply for postponement of their property taxes.

Senator Leyva Launches Career and Jobs Skills Education Act of 2015

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) today jointly authored the Career and Job Skills Education Act with Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg).
SB 148 appropriates $600 million to a Career Technical Education (CTE) incentive grant program for local school districts.  Strong performance standards and oversight measures in the legislation will ensure direct investments in important CTE programs throughout California.  SB 148 builds upon the CTE incentive matching grant program proposed in Governor Jerry Brown’s 2015-16 budget.

Senator Leyva to Lead Select Committee on Mobile Homes

SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) has selected and the Senate Rules Committee approved Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) to serve as Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Manufactured Home Communities.  Senator Leyva has also been selected as the Senate designee to the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Mobilehome Park Inspection Program Task Force.

SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) recently introduced legislation that will require yearly testing of drinking water at schools in California to ensure water quality and safety.
Currently, the extent of ongoing water quality issues at school sites throughout the Inland Empire and California remains largely unknown and unaddressed.  SB 334 requires that, where schools find that their water is not clean, school districts must provide alternative sources of clean water.
