Leaders Launch “Feeding the Frontlines: Catering to the Needs of Essential Workers” and Serve Lunch UC Davis Health Workers

Senators Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, and Steven Bradford, D-Gardena, co-authors of SB 206, the Fair Pay to Play Act, made the following statements today regarding the NCAA’s decision to move forward on allowing college athletes to earn money from their name, image, and likeness:

San Francisco -  Tomorrow, Thursday April 30th at 6pm EST/3pm PST, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Senator Brad Hoylman (D-Manhattan) will host a National LGTBQ Town Hall, featuring LGTBQ elected state officials from across the country. The LGBTQ leaders speaking virtually include Governor Jared Polis (D-Colorado), Representative Julie Johnson (D-Dallas), Assemblymember Susan Talamantes Eggman (D-Stockton), and Representative Malcolm Kenyatta (D-Philadelphia).

INGLEWOOD, CA –California Senator Steven Bradford (35th District) secured 1,000 face shields produced by CSUDH students with 3D printing to protect Resident Physicians at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center who are on the frontlines of the pandemic.

The face shields will protect medical professionals during procedures that might expose them to blood or other infectious fluids, and support their own health and safety as they work with COVID-19 positive patients.

SACRAMENTO, CA – This year, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) introduced legislation to address the statewide shortage of minority healthcare providers among the COVID-19 crisis.  SB 1110 will establish the California Medicine Scholars Program (CMS), a three-year pilot program in four regions across the state that creates a pre-medical pathway pipeline program, in partnership with California Community Colleges.
