Butane Hash Oil & Methamphetamine Manufacturing Target of Legislation Approved by State Senate

Sacramento-The State Senate approved SB 212 authored by Senator Tony Mendoza (D-Artesia) on a unanimous bipartisan vote of 40 to 0. The bill will address the proliferation of Butane Hash Oil (BHO) and methamphetamine manufacturing in residential neighborhoods by making it an aggravated felony to manufacture the drugs within close proximity to occupied residences and structures.

SACRAMENTO – Earlier today, Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) recognized Riverside Grill in Chino as the 2015 20th State Senate District “Small Business of the Year”.
First opening in 1997, Riverside Grill has remained a popular family-run Inland Empire eatery for almost two decades.  Founded by brothers Rodrigo and Al Avila—as well as a third brother that is no longer affiliated with the restaurant—Riverside Grill started as a counter service restaurant though was renovated to sit 80 people with a full service bar known for its extensive local craft beer selections.

Since my appointment as chair of the Senate Committee on Elections and Constitutional Amendments in January, I have been exploring legislative solutions to California’s unacceptably low rate of voter participation. 

Toward that end my committee has held three lengthy oversight hearings where we heard from voting rights advocates, voter outreach groups, state and local elections officials, academia, political researchers, and political reformers.
